My background as a 'Diet Guru'
Hello and thank you for visiting my site, I hope you find the information informative and interesting and that you become inspired to try a new way to losing weight.
I have an unusual background for a 'diet guru' but one which allows me to empathise with every person who is so desperate to lose weight that they will undergo live threatening surgery in their attempt to lose weight.
I was the first person from my state school to graduate
from Cambridge University having won a scholarship to read mathematics/economics
at this famous institution. I have worked since in Management Consultancy,
Consumer goods, Pharmaceuticals and Telecommunications for many blue chip
organisations – including Mars Confectionery! I have been most fortunate
to travel widely during my career and have worked in the US, Canada and
Europe.
In parallel with a 'normal' career, my passion has been researching obesity and everything that can help answer the question "Why do we overeat? When all we want is to be slim". Following the publication of the book with this title in 2004, two more books were published in 2008: "The Harcombe Diet: Stop Counting Calories & Start Losing Weight" and "The Harcombe Diet Recipe Book, co-written with a wonderful chef called Rachel McGuinness."
I left the corporate world and qualified as a nutritionist with a Diploma in Diet and Nutrition and a Diploma in Clinical Weight Management. However, I see my qualifications as quite literally 'academic'. What is important is that I am 5'2" and 7.12-8 stone (BMI 20-21) and I have been this weight for 15 years - since discovering the reasons why we overeat and since following my own advice. I eat as much as my 6 foot, 14 stone, ex rugby playing husband and love my food. I enjoy eating in a way I could never have dreamt of. I am no longer afraid of, or out of control with, food. I eat chocolate and indulge in Haagen-Daz ice cream when I want to. I never crave food, but it wasn't always this way...
I was anorexic at 16, bulimic by 19 and I have fought food cravings to rival any drug addiction for many years. I have suffered all of the conditions that I will share with you in my book. (I no longer suffer any of them and I know how to make sure that they never return). I had the great fortune to be treated by Dr Jonathan Brostoff whilst suffering one of them as a student at Cambridge. I had a test in hospital, for another of the conditions, which was stopped as I passed out within an hour and a half of the test starting. I had the third condition diagnosed by a nutritionist. I have read all the diet books, and healthy eating books under the sun and have spent years wondering why people overeat when all they want is to be slim.
I have got the answer. You too can get these answers that will stop your cravings FOREVER.
The most common thing that friends and colleagues ever say to me is "how can you possibly eat so much and stay so slim?" Clients ask me the same and they're surprised that they too can eat well and lose weight. I have been free from food addiction for so many years I almost feel guilty that I have only
recently taken the time to put my 20 years worth of experience and
research on paper. You can download a copy of my books from this site today.
I also take on clients for one-to-one sessions and programmes. Please check my consultation page if this interests you.
My personal values are Health, Relationships, Integrity, Mutuality
and Personal Growth. I enjoy rugby (supporting!), socialising, travelling and
chocolate - which is an important part of my diet!. I write regularly for women and lifestyle magazines as well as the national press.
I live with my husband, Andy, and our rescue dog and cat in the beautiful Welsh countryside.
